Mercedes GP’s Nico Rosberg aims more Podium finishes before season ends
Nico Rosberg is still hoping to take more podium positions before the 2010 season comes to an end. Six more races are yet to go and Rosberg, who has kept striving hard all through believes that he would be able to make a podium or two before the season winds up.
The German’s team, Mercedes GP was part of last year’s season under the banner of Brawn GP. Being the most successful team then, they laid their hands on that year’s Constructors’ Title while their team member, Jenson Button also claimed the Drivers’ Title of the year. However, since the start of 2010 season, the team hasn’t been able to pronounce the same pace and form on the track. They haven’t raised themselves anywhere above fourth place.
The season’s beginning brought much hype and fanfare to the team, firstly because they were the winners of last season while secondly and more importantly because they had signed the seven times Formula One champion Michael Schumacher. However, both haven’t lived up to the expectations yet. The team failed to deliver the fastest car of the season whereas the driver failed to produce racing wonders on track for which he had always been famous.
Now, the second team driver, Rosberg, who has been evidently more successful this season than his teammate, claims to attain at least one more podium before the season ends. He has already finished on the podium thrice this season. His first finish at third place was at the Malaysian Grand Prix, later he again finished third at the Chinese Grand Prix while finally at Silverstone, he again claimed to be third.
Currently, Rosberg stands at eighth place in the Drivers' Standings having bagged a total of one hundred and two points with thirteen races of the season already gone. Although, the young racer tried hard not to lose a single point all through the season but still, his last race at Spa dropped him down as Robert Kubica of Renault did pretty well and he was able to end the race at third place behind Mark Webber of Red Bull. This resulted in his claim of Rosberg’s initial seventh position in the Drivers’ Championship.
The top five drivers are all in great form and also the cars of the top three teams have exhibited such pace in past few races that unfortunately the German, despite his hopes, doesn’t see a lot of chances for his podium finish. Rosberg said, “It’s definitely becoming more and more difficult because (based on) pure pace we're going to struggle to get a podium I think."
However, what makes the driver still hopeful is the fact that the team is continuing to do more up gradations in view of the problems it faced at Spa. Rosberg believes that if the car’s pace improves, he would be able to do better. He added, “There's still going to be opportunities; we have some great races coming up... there are tracks like Singapore, where there are always going to be exciting races and a lot of things can happen.” He concluded by saying, "So it's still a possibility definitely."
