Mercedes GP’s Schumacher sets fastest time in Free Practice session 1 of 2011 Korean GP – Formula 1
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher set the fastest time in the Free Practice session 1 of the 2011 Korean Grand Prix at the Korea International Circuit on October 14.
Schumacher used the sets of soft and supersoft tyres by Pirelli during the FP1 and put on a very good performance on the grid in the wet conditions.
All the teams participated in FP1 of the Korean race weekend. The drivers used the soft and supersoft compounds during their morning practice runs. Most of the drivers tested their updated cars at the Korea International Circuit in FP1.
The Petronas-sponsored team driver Schumacher was the fastest runner of the FP1 of the Korean GP, who set the time of 2 minutes and 2.784 seconds ahead of all drivers after running in his MGP-W02 car. However, while ending the session, the seven-time world
champion brushed barriers while entering the pit-lane.
The double world champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing team set the second fastest time in morning session with a gap of 0.056 seconds from Schumacher.
Both of the drivers, Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil impressed the Friday Practice session 1 by taking third and fourth places respectively for the Force India team in Korea.
On the fifth position was Sebastien Buemi of Toro Rosso, who ended his morning session behind Sutil with a gap of 0.398 seconds.
Buemi was followed by Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi, who came at the sixth position for his team on the final FP1 classifications. He had a gap of 0.508 seconds from Schumacher in the wet conditions at the Korea International Circuit in the morning session.
Lewis Hamilton claimed seventh position for McLaren in FP1 at the Korean racetrack.
Nico Rosberg of Mercedes GP was the eighth fastest driver in the morning Practice session.
Sauber’s Sergio Perez came at the ninth position in the final FP1 classifications after running on the soft and supersoft tyres.
Red Bull Racing second driver Mark Webber was very slow on the grid in the morning session. After running in his RB7 car, he finished his FP1 at the tenth position.
Let’s see whether Schumacher retains his position in afternoon practice session, which will take place on October 14, 2011, at the Korean International Circuit.
