Mercedes Toledo clinches Women’s 50m breaststroke gold: Day one – Venezuela Open Championships
Mercedes Toledo of PNUDC clinched gold medal of the Women’s 50m breaststroke in the 14 and Over category on initial day of the Venezuela Open Championships in Maracaibo on May 17.
With her epic start, she gained a comfortable lead over her challengers in the start and cruised her way towards the finishing end for gold medal.
Her astonishing efforts placed her prominently ahead of her challengers and she sustained her fastest qualification struggle with a phenomenal timing of 32.83 seconds.
The champion was followed by Johana Barreiro of UCVMI, who remained nearly three body lengths apart and emerged on the finishing blockade for second position by submitting a nice time of 35.05 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Roanyi Herrera of NSCMI, who was only one stroke away from her foregoing finisher and posted a time of 35.14 seconds for bronze medal.
In the meantime, Genesis Pereira of HHISP snared fourth finest spot of the breaststroke discipline. The 16-year-old Pereira stayed just 0.23 seconds slower from securing her spot on the podium and posted a time of 35.37 seconds.
Similarly, fifth finest spot of the race was secured by Fabiana Sosa of CIVMI, who stayed nearly a half body length behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 35.76 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was trailed by Claudia Travieso of PIBOL, who was only 0.01 seconds apart and tapped the finishing end by producing an effort of 35.77 seconds.
The sixth position holder was followed by Larismar Arcila of CSIVC, who remained 0.04 seconds behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 35.81 seconds.
Eighth best position of the discipline was secured by Laura Linares of CNTRU, who stayed almost three strokes slower and surfaced on the finishing end by producing an effort of 36.12 seconds.
Toledo was overjoyed with her medal claiming effort in the shortest breaststroke event. In addition, the session came to an end after the completion of all planned events while the position holders were invited on the position holders for awards and accolades
at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
