Mercedes Toledo seizes Women’s 100m breaststroke gold: Day four – Venezuela Open Championships
Mercedes Toledo of PNUDC seized gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke in the 14 and above category on fourth day of the Venezuela Open Championships in Maracaibo on May 20.
The 23-year-old Toledo devastated hopes of her opponents in the double lap breaststroke discipline and stepped on the victory stand for the crown of the event.
Her invincible efforts remained nearly two strokes ahead of her strongest challenger as she submitted a wonderful time of 1 minute and 11.82 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was followed by Daniela Victoria of SCLN, who remained 0.20 seconds apart and reached the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 12.02 seconds for silver medal.
With her alluring effort, Victoria remained nearly four seconds ahead of Larismar Arcila of CSIVC, who completed the podium by winning bronze medal of the event with an effort of 1 minute and 15.94 seconds.
Fourth spot of the 100m discipline was obtained by Corina Lavado of PIBOL, who stayed 0.33 seconds apart and finished her race by posting a time of 1 minute and 16.27 seconds.
Lavado was followed by Johana Barreiro of UCVMI, who secured fifth fastest place of the discipline with the timing of 1 minute and 17.58 seconds.
In the meantime, the arena witnessed forceful efforts of Gabriel Hernandez of Cabog in the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) in the same age class.
The 20-year-old Hernandez stifled hopes of his challengers  by winning gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 4 minutes and 39.10 seconds.
The gold medallist was trailed by Edgar Aguilar of NSCMI, who finished his swim in second place by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 40.45 seconds.
Aguilar was chased by Eddy Marin of CNTRU, who stepped on the podium for third position by posting a time of 4 minutes and 42.10 seconds.
He was followed by Andy Arteta of PNUDC, who occupied fourth position of the event with an effort of 4 minutes and 42.56 seconds.
In addition, the championship concluded after the completion of all listed events in Men and Women’s category.
