Mercedes admits car not consistent
Mercedes drivers, Michael Schumacher, and, Nico Rosberg, were not pleased with the performance of their car today during the qualifying session of the Formula One 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix.
Both German drivers qualified 11th and ninth respectively after suffering some issues with their rear wings.
The seven-time Formula One champion stated, “We had some issues with the rear wing activation today and unfortunately that's what compromised my last run in Q2. The car became difficult to drive, which is a real shame as it had been working very well during
the earlier runs”.
On the other hand, Rosberg said, “The team have made some good progress here and I had a decent balance up to Q2 today. Unfortunately I lost that feeling in Q3, which combined with the rear wing issue, meant we weren't able to get the performance out of
the car which is frustrating”.
After a disappointing start to the first race of the 2011 season in Australia, Mercedes aimed to perform well in Malaysia. The team failed to score any points in the race, as both their drivers were forced to retire due to unfortunate accidents.
The German team did a very good job during the practice sessions and the start of the qualifying session at Sepang. However, things changed dramatically for them during the second and third sessions of qualifying.
Team principal, Ross Brawn, admitted that the car had a few technical issues with the rear wing. He claimed that things were working according to plan for the team until the problems occurred today.
Brawn further added that Mercedes had the potential to match the front-runners, but has been unable to get rid of issues until now. He said that the team would be looking forward to provide a consistent car to both its drivers so that they can achieve the
best possible result in the race on Sunday 10th April.
The German giants ended up almost in the same position where they were in Australia. However, they will be hoping to score their maiden points of the season, which they failed to achieve in the inaugural race.
On the other hand, another German, Sebastian Vettel, was quite pleased with the performance of his car today. The Red Bull driver managed to pull off a spectacular lap time towards the end of the qualifying session, taking yet another pole position in his
career.
