Mercedes can be quicker than Red Bull – Formula 1 news
Mercedes can be quicker than Red Bull in the forthcoming 2012 Formula 1 season setting off at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia and can astonish the spectators of F1 with its pace.
After the pre-season testing, it has been claimed by the Auto Motor und Sport, a German magazine that the new Mercedes car W03 had the strongest pace on track during the long run.
Mercedes had quite a struggling pre-season last year but during this year, they have made many significant improvements and essential preparations for the forthcoming season.
It would be extremely interesting to mention that Mercedes had been given the title of “Bluff champion” of the winter by the major daily Bild.
“The analysis of recent testing in Barcelona shows that Mercedes are even faster than Red Bull,” the report exclaimed.
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn is positive about the upcoming season and feels confident on the reliability of the car after the pre-season testing programme as compared to the last year which didn’t prove out well for the team.
Brawn is quoted by Brazil’s Globo, “You always believe it. You want a winning car, and I have not seen anything that tells me that we don’t have (now).”
In addition, Brawn said that he expected a very strong tussle amongst the contenders in the season opener.
“I'm expecting the tightest start to a season we've seen for a number of years,” said Brawn.
Moreover, he hoped for a very exciting season ahead.
It would be even more surprising that Sauber had been given the second position after the analysis of the ‘long run’ pace of the cars during the pre-season tests, by Auto Motor und Sport even though they seemed equally quick during the last year’s testing.
Furthermore, the Swiss team was followed by Red Bull, McLaren, Lotus and then the struggling Ferrari.
However, Sauber team principal, Peter Sauber expressed that to rank the performance of the teams for the forthcoming season is difficult than ever before.
“It has never been as difficult as it is this year to get a picture of where everybody stands. Why? Because the field has never been so close together,” said Peter Sauber.
