Mercedes claim to have understood issues with their early race speed – Formula 1 news
Mercedes has revealed that they are suffering with their early race pace due to heavy fuel loads.
They are of the view that during the heavy load, the speed of the car suffers, however when the weight of fuel reduces the car starts performing well in the last few laps of the race. This was revealed by team principal Ross Brawn and their driver Michael
Schumacher.
The heavy fuel problem was prominent in the last two grands prix which cost Schumacher seventh place in the race despite having secured a third place in the qualifying round.
The German driver said that the start and finish of race is slightly difficult for Mercedes. He added that they have an idea about the problem but they do not fully understand the issue. Moreover, he said they are investigating and with every race, they
understand the car better.
He said, “The race and the beginning of the race is a little bit tougher for us. What is the reason for this? If we knew we wouldn't have this problem, but quite frankly we don't know 100%.”
He added that they have understood that tyres play an important role on the circuit and in Budapest, they will be trying to achieve improved results with their car.
Moreover, he said that they have been working on the issue and are hopeful they will be able to perform better at the Hungarian grand Prix.
The German said, “We have seen that tyres are the big secret and we have seen that if you get that working it can actually multiply your benefit and that's what we are hoping for.”
Ross Brawn is of the view that the Mercedes is still not making the effective usage of tyres as it should have but he said that they still have shown a lot of improvement.
Brawn said, “I think we're still not quite in that right group of tyre usage. It's much better than it was but we're still not quite in that right group.”
The Hungarian Grand Prix weekend begins from Friday, July 27, 2012.
