Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton feels positive about their 2013 car – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is feeling positive about their 2013 car and is learning to work well with his team very quickly.
Hamilton joined the Silver Arrows in this season as Michael Schumacher’s replacement who has retired from the sport. The Briton has been surrounded by many speculations that he will struggle in this year’s championship as Mercedes might not be able to resolve
the reliability issues which they faced during the preceding season. However, he has performed tremendously well during the pre-season tests this year and has managed to secure a convincing fifth place finish in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne
after setting off from the third grid slot.
After such a compelling start, the 2008 world champion is positively looking forward to perform well in the season ahead. He has asserted that he has full confidence in his new team. Moreover, he said that he is learning the operations of the team very quickly
which will help him a lot in making further progress in the forthcoming races.
Besides, he said that they could have done better in the Australian Grand Prix. Nonetheless, he expressed satisfaction on his result in the first race and said that they are trying their best to improve the pace of their car so as to secure competitive results
in the season ahead.
“I do really feel positive about the car, I feel positive about the team and they are moving very fast in terms of developing the car and learning how I like to work, and I'm learning very quickly how they like to work,” he said. “Of course, we could have
done things better and it was our first race together, so you can't really prepare perfectly no matter how much you prepare for it. It's not until you do a race that you understand how to work.”
Furthermore, when he was asked whether he was frightened by the pace of Red Bull Racing during the qualifying in Australia, he said that he actually thought that he could have matched their speed if the conditions were normal.
“I don't think they have frightening pace in qualifying,” he added.
