Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton says he needs to get a win – Formula 1 News
Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton, has said that he needs to get a win to make his mark stronger in this year’s championship fight but played down the possibility of claiming victory in the 2013 British Grand Prix at the same time.
Hamilton joined the Silver Arrows at the start of this year and has performed remarkably well in the season so far. Although, he has impressed everyone with his amazing performances and has secured three podiums in the season so
far, he has not been able to score a race victory. In contrast, his teammate, Nico Rosberg successfully won the Monaco GP after securing his third consecutive pole of the season.
Therefore, the British driver has insisted that he needs to improve his performance to claim a victory. However, he underplayed the chances of a win in the forthcoming race as he believes that his main rivals, Ferrari and Red Bull
Racing are very strong.
“I need to get a win,” he was quoted by Press Association Sport. “But I'm not going to Silverstone thinking about the possibility of winning, not after witnessing the pace of Ferrari and Red Bull in Canada. They were massively
quick.”
“Sebastian [Vettel] was pulling away from me at a second per lap. We won't have gained a second coming into this race, but we can definitely beat the rest,” he said.
In addition, he said that the track of the next race is quite challenging because of its fast corners. Nevertheless, he expressed that they are aiming to make the necessary developments in their car to come up stronger at Silverstone
circuit this weekend.
“Silverstone will be a real challenge for us, so fingers crossed it's not going to be a problem, but we'll have to see. Tyre degradation could be an issue,” he added.
The 2008 world champion is currently standing at fourth place in the drivers’ championship with 77 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing and behind his major opponent, Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
It will be very interesting to see how the Briton performs in his home race and whether he will be able to come up to the expectation of his fans or not.
