Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton says they need to improve their race pace – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that they need to improve their race pace in order to score victories in the season ahead after securing third podium finish
in the 2013 Chinese Grand Prix.
Hamilton performed incredibly well in the qualifying at Shanghai International Circuit and successfully claimed his first ever pole position with the Brackley based
team. But, he failed to match the pace of his rivals, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus, on the race day and could only secure third podium finish.
Contrarily, Alonso managed to score his first victory of the season after setting off from third grid position while the Finn secured an inspiring second podium
finish after maintaining his position efficiently.
The British driver has performed impressively well in the season so far behind the wheel of his car. He secured a convincing fifth place finish in the season opener
after taking a start from third grid slot. Afterwards, he secured an amazing third podium finish in the Malaysian GP after qualifying for fourth grid position.
However, he has asserted that they still need to make some essential developments in their car so as to improve its race pace in order to compete well with their
major opponents, Ferraris and Lotuses. Besides, he expressed that they earnestly need to improve their tyre management to attain better results in the forthcoming races.
“Of course I would loved to have won and I never like going backwards, but we just don't have the pace of the Ferraris and the Lotuses in race conditions,” Hamilton
said. “That's an area we need to improve on but guys did great job, and generally did this whole weekend just to be where we are. It was a good race and it was so close in last corner because I had no rubber left on my tyres but I just managed to hold onto
it.”
Additionally, he said that the competition is going to be very tough in the season ahead. Therefore, they should work hard to make the timely developments in their
car.
“You've got to remember that as we progress everybody else is progressing at the same time,” he added.
