Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher: Qualifying round went according to plan – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher has said that the qualifying round of the 2011 Italian Grand Prix went according to the plan which they had set before the start of the race weekend.
Schumacher added that they saved two sets of option tyres for the Italian GP during Qualifiers. He stated that he is hopeful of getting better results from the Monza race taking place on Sunday, September 11, 2011.
The seven-time world champion spent most of his time during Qualifiers on the sets of medium and hard tyres. He used soft compounds only during the qualifying round 3 and tried to improve his lap time during that.
The German had a gap of 1.502 seconds from Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, who was the top runner of Q3 at Monza racetrack.
Schumacher commented, “I don't think we could have taken much more; maybe I could have ended up one place higher. I didn't have an ideal fast lap as I tried to use the slip stream from Lewis but then he locked up in the second chicane which made me lock
up too.”
He went on to mention, “However I will be on soft tyres tomorrow which should be better for my race. As our race pace looked quite good yesterday, I was more focusing on the race and trying to use the tyres in the right way. For tomorrow, I will try to get
a good start and take it from there.”
The Petronas-sponsored team driver finished his Q3 run at the eighth place ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg in Italy after the fight with Renault’s Vitaly Petrov and Rosberg.
On the other hand, Rosberg mentioned that he is happy with his show in the qualifying round at the Monza racetrack. He talked to the media and stated that his MGP-W02 car was strong during the Saturday’s session in Italy.
The German qualified at the ninth place on Saturday, September 10, 2011. After that, he is hopeful of getting better results from Sunday’s race.
Let’s see how both Germans manage their 2011 Italian Grand Prix on Sunday.
