Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher admits accident during British GP was his fault – Formula 1
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher has admitted that the accident during the British Grand Prix at the Silverstone racetrack was his fault.
Schumacher had a collision with the Sauber-Ferrari driver Kamui Kobayashi in the early laps of the Silverstone race. Due to that contact, the German’s front wing was badly damaged and he was handed over a stop/go penalty.
The seven-time world champion admitted that the accident with Kobayashi was his own fault. In addition, he apologised to his team for being unable to give better results to them in Silverstone.
Despite his accident during the starting laps of the race, Schumacher made a lot of struggle for his best finish after that and completed his race at the ninth place behind Renault’s Nick Heidfeld, who finished his run in the eighth spot.
The 42-year-old driver discussed his British Grand Prix and said, “My result today is a bit of a shame, and of course I am not happy about it. I think fifth or even fourth place would not have been out of question today thanks to the superb job the guys
back in Brackley and Brixworth have done.”
He went on to mention, “It was right to get a penalty but why it had to be a stop-go, and not a drive-through penalty, I would like to understand better as I felt it was too hard. Anyway, the good thing is that step-by-step, the hard work of our team is
paying off more and more.”
Schumacher started his race from the 13th place on the grid. He took part in the British Grand Prix with hopes of getting a very close place to the current competitors of the 2011 Formula 1 season. Due to an accident during the race, he could
not do that as he lost a lot of his time in the repair work and due to the penalty.
On the other hand, his teammate Nico Rosberg put a solid performance on the Silverstone grid and finished his race at the sixth place for the Petronas-sponsored team.
Mercedes were quite happy with Rosberg’s performance in the British Grand Prix. However, they are hoping for better results from Schumacher in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
