Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg pleased despite missing podium in Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes’ driver Nico Rosberg has claimed that his fifth place finish in the Formula 1 2011 Chinese Grand Prix was satisfying even though he missed out on a possible podium finish.
After leading the race for a handful of laps, Rosberg had to slow down his pace due to a fuel consumption issue towards the end of the race.
The German driver stated, “The race on Sunday really was one of the most exciting grands prix that I've ever driven. It took some time after the race to let everything sink in because I had high hopes for a good podium result, and I had led for a quarter
of the race.”
Commenting on the fuel problem, the 27-year-old said, “I can't blame anybody in the team for having been short on fuel, it's a lesson that we learn together. We have to be happy that we made a step forward in China which was achieved by everyone in the team
working extremely hard.”
Rosberg claimed that the importance of teamwork was significant for him and he will look to improve in the remainder of the season along with all the members of Mercedes.
The German team will bring some upgrades for the Turkish Grand Prix, which is scheduled for Sunday, May 8, 2011. Although Mercedes did not plan any updates for the Chinese GP, the team took a big step ahead in terms of performance.
The Petronas sponsored team was unable to make an impression in the first two races of the season in Australia and Malaysia. However, both Mercedes drivers Rosberg and Michael Schumacher finished the third race of the season in points.
Schumacher had some issues with his rear wing, which did not allow the veteran to qualify in the top ten for the opening three races of the season. However, Mercedes will bring an upgraded wing for Turkey and hope to get rid of all the issues.
The seven-time Formula 1 champion started the race in China from 14th position on the grid. He took a flying start and gained five places in the opening lap. The veteran proved that he could have finished much higher in points if he had a trouble
free qualifying. Let’s see if Mercedes can make an impact in the upcoming Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul.
