Mercedes duo Rosberg, Schumacher doubtful about finishing in top six in qualifiers – Formula 1 news
Mercedes duo Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher has said that the team needs to do a lot of work in order to challenge the top six drivers in the qualifiers of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The lack of pace has left both Germans doubtful about scoring a position in the first three rows.
Rosberg said, “We had two decent sessions and the short and the long runs on the super-softs were reasonable. However there is still a lot of work to do to improve our package for qualifying and look at how to manage the tyre degradation. It's interesting
to see how the top six positions are changing from race to race, and we'll keep pushing to get even closer to.”
Rosberg is also expecting to push harder so that he can he can rank in the top six places on the starting grid for Sunday’s race. However, both drivers are sure that it will take a lot of concentration and hard work before Mercedes are able to challenge
top three teams, McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull Racing.
The most positive sign of improvement came out after the changes made in the exhaust systems used by Mercedes. However, after scoring seventh and eighth positions in FP1 and FP2 by Rosberg and Schumacher respectively, both agreed on the need of further upgrades.
Though the lap times were improved but still it was not enough to step up positions in final time sheet of the day.
Schumacher said, “Coming to the second race of a back-to-back series means that you are not able to do a great deal to the car between the two weekends so the practice sessions today went pretty much according to our expectations.”
The German veteran also said that there is still a margin of development in the changes made over the last couple of races but the fact is it will not be enough to rank them high in the top six seats.
Schumacher is determined to give his best as supported by their machines. His effort will be to score as best as possible in the qualifiers and final race day. Let’s see how he fares in Hungaroring this weekend.
