Mercedes focused to achieve zero-defect reliability – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn has said that their main concern is to provide their drivers, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg with a competitive and reliable car for the forthcoming races.
The Brackley-based team had the most successful pre-season testing programmes this year. Moreover, with the double DRS in W03, they have been considered as one of the most competent contenders after Rosberg took his maiden victory in the third race held
at Shanghai International Circuit in China after claiming his first ever pole.
In addition, the German driver secured an impressive second podium finish in the sixth race at Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo after setting off from second grid position.
On the other hand, Schumacher has been seen struggling with his race pace in the season so far as he has only been able to score 2 points and has retired in five out of first seven races. In the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia,
he faced problem with the gearbox. Later on, in the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China, his tyre was not fitted properly during the pit stop.
Additionally, in the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, his DRS failed to work. Later, in the sixth race at Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo, he retired due to fuel pressure failure. Over and above, in the seventh race at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve
in Montreal, he faced hydraulics issues which caused of his retirement.
Even though, the seven-time world champion has delivered some inspiring performances in the qualifying of several grands prix, however, he could not be able to convert his competitive grid positions into a podium finish in any of the races.
Nevertheless, Brawn said that they are making the best of the efforts to resolve the reliability issues in order to perform well in the approaching races.
“The performance of our car and our tyre management were generally good in Canada, however our competitiveness was compromised by reliability problems and mistakes,” said Brawn. “This is a disappointment that is deeply felt by everyone in our team, and we
have been working hard to ensure we understand the reasons and deal with them. Achieving zero-defect reliability is our highest priority. The opportunities available if we can give both drivers a reliable car and a clean weekend are clear.”
