Mercedes honour Michael Schumacher ahead of his retirement – Formula 1 news
Mercedes prepare to pay tribute to Michael Schumacher as they head to a final race with the driver in the Brazilian Grand Prix this weekend.
The team principal, Ross Brawn, has worked with Schumacher during the driver’s career at both Benetton and Ferrari. Brawn has stated that he has enjoyed a good time with Schumacher over the years.
“With the last race of the season in Brazil also bringing Michael's second and final retirement from Formula One, it will be an emotional weekend for everyone in the team,” Brawn said. “We have both greatly enjoyed and benefitted from working with Michael
over the past three years, and I would like to pay tribute to his enduring commitment, passion and team spirit.”
He admitted that even though they could not achieve the targets they had set when Schumacher had returned to the team after his first retirement but he is definitely satisfied with the improvement his team has made with the driver’s support. He insisted
that if Schumacher is not the best then is obviously one of the best F1 drivers in history.
The president of Mercedes Benz, Norbert Haug, said that the Brazilian GP is not only going to be the end of a long 2012 F1 season but will also be the last race of Schumacher’s brilliant career. He admitted that he was immensely thankful to the driver for
his support both on and off the track to Mercedes. He is of the opinion that Schumacher is known and appreciated worldwide for his capabilities in driving and his sportsman character.
Schumacher’s teammate at Mercedes, Nico Rosberg, has also expressed that it has been a great experience to drive both alongside him and against him. He confessed that this weekend in Brazil is going to be an emotional one.
Meanwhile, Schumacher has stated that he is looking forward to enjoy his farewell this weekend than the last time when he was more focused on winning the championship. He also said that there could not have been a better place than Brazil to end his career.
He also pointed out that the Interlagos circuit brings back his memories of Ayrton Senna.
