Mercedes hope for a strong weekend in Barcelona – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn has said that they are hoping for a strong weekend in Barcelona after facing difficulties with their qualifying pace in the last two races.
The Brackley based squad showed incredible qualifying pace as they managed to claim the pole positions in the Chinese and the Bahrain grands prix. However, their drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg struggled with their race pace because of which they
could not claim victories despite showing remarkable performances in the qualifying of the preceding two rounds.
Brawn said that they have been trying their best to overcome the issues which they faced in the Bahrain GP and to make some essential developments in their car to perform well in the forthcoming race.
Moreover, he stated that they are planning to evaluate some significant updates in Barcelona before the race to make the most out of them. He also said that although they have not been able to achieve perfection in their development, but they are expecting
to come up stronger in the Spanish GP despite facing some problems in the last couple of races.
“We have focused our efforts in two key areas; finalising our upgrade package for Spain and understanding our comparative lack of race pace in Bahrain,” team principal Ross Brawn said. “We have made progress in the latter area and will evaluate some developments
over the upcoming race weekends to help improve the situation. We're not there yet but we are making progress and of course, performing in the race is what really counts.”
Besides, he said that they performed well in Barcelona during the pre-season testing. Therefore, they are hoping to attain competitive points in the fifth race of the season which is going to be held at Circuit de Catalunya.
“We know that the car went very well at the Circuit de Catalunya in pre-season testing so I am hopeful that we can have a strong weekend,” he said.
In addition, he asserted that the competition is going to be tougher in the season ahead. So, they are aiming to compete well with their rivals to make their mark stronger in the championship fight.
