Mercedes hope to revive Spa victory at 2011 Japanese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP hope to revive their Spa victory at the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka racetrack on October 9, 2011.
The Brackley-based team that could not perform as well as it hoped for in the recent Singapore GP at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, hopes to remain in the top six positions at the end of this season.
The team was not so happy with its performance at the Singapore Grand Prix, but as it is said that everything happens so quickly in Formula 1 world that there is hardly any time left to think backwards. The Mercedes team is thus all-set and focused on building
its strategy for the next race at Japan.
Vice President, Mercedes-Benz Motorsport Norbert Haug is very confident at the team’s prospects and is hopeful that given the layout of Suzuka racetrack, the team stands good chances of producing results.
He said, “In terms of average lap speed, Suzuka ranks - together with Spa and Monza - among the top five of the season, which should mean our technical package should be better suited here than at the slower speed tracks.”
The seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher is also hopeful about the team’s chances of winning at the Suzuka circuit. The 42-year-old German has won six times at this track in his career and has a fairly good idea of the turns and corners of this circuit.
He said, “Suzuka is a very special circuit, and one which has held great races, and great memories, for me over the years. I always enjoy the challenge of driving here and getting the technical setup of the car right to get the best from the demanding layout
of the track.”
Mercedes GP currently sit at 4th position on the constructors’ standings with a total of 114 points from the 14 races held in this season so far.
With five races still remaining in the 2011 Formula 1 season, let’s see how the team fares.
