Mercedes insist it will not be considering any other driver over Michael Schumacher – Formula 1 news
Mercedes insists it will not be considering any other options for a driver until it sorts out whether or not Michael Schumacher is going to decide to stay on with the team for next year or not.
Schumacher had recently hinted at extending his career beyond 2012 as speculations were rife that the veteran might be looking into retirement after the 2012 season. The seven-time champion has said that he has not been able to achieve as much as he would
have liked to and that is why he is still very motivated to continue on.
He also said that he hopes that Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn starts the talks over his future soon. The Red Bull driver Mark Webber has renewed his contract with Red Bull which means that Mercedes has the option of luring Lewis Hamilton if the Brit
decides to leave McLaren.
Mercedes have decided to wait on Schumacher’s decision and look into it over the summer break. Brawn has now made it clear that he wants does not want to look into any other driver.
“We haven't discussed it, but he enjoys himself and, if he enjoys himself, why not?” said Brawn about the prospects of Schumacher’s continuing.
“Inevitably you come to a point where you have to say: let's have the discussions because these things can sometimes take some time, and you have to have the discussion and you have to reach a conclusion in order to plan for the future. But there is no deadline
or critical point where he or we have said that we must have a decision by then. It must be the right decision: that is the most important thing,” added Brawn.
He said that it will be a mutual decision and when the time is right it will be sorted by going through all the considerations to conclude. Schumacher is a very logical person and he trusts that he will come to a very reasonable conclusion.
