Mercedes insist they have finally eliminated their reliability issues – Formula 1 news
Team Mercedes was going through some reliability issues mainly due to some hydraulic problems in their new car W02 during the early test session in Valencia.
However, the team claims that they have resolved this issue and the 2nd day of testing in Jerez is going to be much better.
The team went through the same problem at the second test session in Jerez as Nico Rosberg was unable to complete a sufficient amount of laps as compared to the rest of the teams. He ran for just 67 laps while the rest of the drivers ran for around 100 laps.
Other than that, he was unable to score an impressive time either
“We had a reasonable day and I was able to complete quite a few laps, which is positive. It's important for both me and the team to get good mileage and we're really learning about the car all the time,” he said.
The team is quite confident about its new machinery and they believe that they have a car which has the capability of enabling its driver to challenge the top running drivers as well. Team Mercedes is aiming for nothing less than the titles this season and
they believe that they are using the new devices quite effectively.
Nico also revealed that the team is trying to concentrate on the Kinetic Energy Recovery System more as well.
“The KERS was working well and having more time to get used to the system is a real help; it's not just a question of using the buttons but also understanding the effect of the KERS under braking,” said Rosberg.
He added that they now understand the new tyres even more and they are trying to set their car in a more balanced way in order to perform consistently throughout the upcoming season.
It is believed that the new tyres by Pirelli are going to play a vital role in the 2011 Formula 1 season and this time, the drivers will not have the chance to criticise the new tyre compounds as they have tested them themselves.
Team Mercedes claims that it has a significant step for Bahrain and they are not trying to focus on the pre-season test session’s results. They are trying their best to set their car up with the best possible package.
The 2011 Formula 1 season is definitely going to be a lot more exciting and dramatic than the 2010 season mainly because of the reintroduction of KERS and movable rear wings as it is believed that these devices will increase the rate of overtaking in the
sport.
