Mercedes may partly withdraw from Formula 1 – Formula 1 news
Mercedes are considering a partial departure from Formula 1 and there are chances that they may emerge as a semi-official team from 2014 onwards.
French weekly Auto Hebdo has recently reported that the Brackley based team may partly withdraw from the sport as they are not getting the desired outcomes and have been questioning themselves, “how to get rid of a costly team with disappointing results while still enjoying its benefits?”
Moreover, they are very much unhappy over the decision of the chief executive of F1, Bernie Ecclestone who has not included them in the board. Additionally, they have not signed the Concorde Agreement which implies that they have no long-term commitments with the game.
Furthermore, it will be important to mention that a report from Handelsblatt, a German business paper stated that Mercedes may leave over the issue of Gerhard Gribkowsky bribery outrage.
However, the German car manufacturers instantly dismissed all the speculations and one of their spokesmen said that they have a vision of long-term commitment with F1 which is a central part of their business philosophy.
“Our Formula 1 commitment is for the long term and an integral component of our company philosophy,” an official of Mercedes said.
Nevertheless, the recent rumours concerning their withdrawal are not going to die that easy. In addition, it has also been stated in the reports that they have already made up their minds to limit their participation level at the conclusion of next season. Besides, it is to be note that the revised name of the team will be AMG F1 instead of Mercedes AMG.
Over and above, it will be interesting to mention that the team will be run by the same team principal, Ross Brawn and the record championship holder, Michael Schumacher will remain in the drivers’ line-up. Lastly, they will continue to provide their engines to the teams in the upcoming seasons.
At present, they are standing at fifth place in the constructors’ championship with 106 points. Furthermore, they are ahead of Sauber and are behind Ferrari. Let’s see how they show up in the remaining races after the mid-season break.
