Mercedes must resolve their reliability issues to come up stronger in 2013 – Formula 1
Mercedes have struggled in most of the race in the 2012 Formula 1 season so far due to some technical issues and poor tyre management, therefore, they must resolve the underlying problems so as to come up stronger in 2013.
The Brackley based team had a successful pre-season testing programme this year as compared to the preceding one in which they could hardly test their car before the first race. However, they have not been able to attain the desired results as they have struggled with their tyre management in most of the races until now.
Furthermore, their driver, Nico Rosberg has only been able to claim one victory for his team which was his maiden win while his teammate, Michael Schumacher has only secured one podium finish in the season so far. Although, the German drivers have shown impressive performances in this year as compared to the previous two seasons but they could have performed even better if they had trouble free weekends.
In addition, after the free practice of the Japanese Grand Prix, Rosberg said that he faced a tyre management issue which they must resolve before the race.
“We had a tricky day,” Rosberg said. “At the end of the first practice session, the oil pressure sensor told me the system was low on pressure so I switched off the engine. It was coming to the end of its life, so we changed it during lunch to avoid any risks, but it cost some running time this afternoon. We are still not where we want to be in terms of performance and we will have to learn some lessons overnight, in order to make sure we have our tyre management under control.”
It will be important to mention that Lewis Hamilton, who is currently in McLaren, is going to join Mercedes in the coming year and the seven-time world champion has decided to take retirement at the end of this season.
On the other hand, the team principal of Silver Arrows, Ross Brawn said that they are trying their best to ensure their car’s reliability and are positively looking forward to perform well with their next year’s driver line-up which is capable enough of winning the championship titles.
Let’s see how they perform in the next season.
