Mercedes non-executive chairman Niki Lauda eyes improvements for 2013 – Formula 1 news
Mercedes’ non-executive chairman, Niki Lauda has said that his aim is to improve the development process of the team during the winter testing in order to attain good results right from the start of the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Lauda said that he is currently analysing things at the team’s factory in Brackley in order to suggest the necessary improvements for the coming season.
Furthermore, he said that they had quite a successful pre-season testing programme this year after which their drivers, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg performed exceptionally well during the first few grands prix.
“I am in England very often; right now just to analyse things. It is interesting that Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg were always in the top five at the beginning of the year, and we won in Shanghai,” the three-time world champion told Welt am Sonntag
newspaper.
However, he said that they could not carry on their development plan efficiently and failed to match the pace of their rivals. Resultantly, both the German drivers could not keep the level of consistency in their performances and remained unable to attain
promising results.
In addition, he said that although they could not achieve their goals in this season, but they are not feeling upset and are positively looking forward to come up stronger in the next season with their changed driver line-up which includes Lewis Hamilton
as Schumacher’s replacement.
Besides, he said that he is going to make the necessary analysis during the staffs’ vacation period at the factory and will come up with some needful suggestions to make the essential preparation for the next year.
“Everything was on track until suddenly it was completely backwards. Together with Ross Brawn we have to ensure that never happens again. When everyone else is on vacation, I will use the time to do everything to bring Mercedes to the front again — because
that’s where we belong,” the Austrian added.
It is to be noted that the triple world champion has also been linked with the role of head of Mercedes motorsport after Norbert Haug stepped down from the position.
