Mercedes plan to launch new exhaust layout in 2012 Singapore Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn has said that they are planning to come up with new exhaust layout in their car in the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix this weekend.
Brawn said that they have successfully gathered the essential data regarding the new exhaust layout and their novel double-DRS during the Young Driver Test which was held at Magny-Cours in France.
Moreover, he said that after making all the analysis they have come to the conclusion that they are going to come up with their new exhaust design in the Singapore GP which their drivers, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg will test during the free Friday
practice.
He also said that although they had a plan to launch their innovative double-DRS in the night race in Singapore, however, he believes that they still need to make some improvements in its design so as to be able to take the most out of it. Therefore, they
are only going to show up their new exhaust in the race ahead.
In addition, he said that the improved exhaust design provides balance at low speed for the rear tyre which provides significant help to the driver to keep the car in control during the race while he said that they are hoping to take full advantage of it
in the forthcoming race.
"We think that's quite significant in low speed traction," he said about where the speed was improved with the Coanda exhausts. "The effect of the exhaust is more significant at lower speeds than higher speeds, and also brings you the balance perhaps you
need for the rear tyre."
At present, the Brackley based team is standing at 5th place in the constructors’ championship with 126 points. Besides, they are ahead of the strongest midfield contender, Sauber-Ferrari and are behind their main rival, Lotus.
Even though, they had quite a successful pre-season testing programme this year but they have struggled with the issue of tyre management in most of the races. Nevertheless, they are aiming to attain competitive results in the remaining grands prix and it
will be thrilling to see how they perform at Marina Bay Street Circuit on September 23, 2012.
