Mercedes principal Ross Brawn says he is optimistic over new exhaust development – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP principal Ross Brawn has said that he is optimistic over the new exhaust development that they have made in their MGP-W02 car for the recently held 2011 British Grand Prix.
Brawn added that the new exhaust system in their car gave them better results in the Silverstone race weekend following the disappointing last couple of races of this season.
The team principal told the media about their new longer exhaust design that it is similar to other strong teams, which included Red Bull Racing, Ferrari and McLaren. They are using the same concept in their cars from the start of the 2011 Formula 1 season
with an aim to improve the efficiency of their Blown Diffuser during the races.
Brawn also mentioned that the new exhaust development that was introduced in their car for the first time in the ongoing season at Silverstone should help the drivers in giving better results to the team in the second half of the season.
Apart from that, the Petronas-sponsored team principal discussed their drivers’ performance in the British Grand Prix. He stated that the Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher seems to be struggling for a strong finish on the grid since the start of the Silverstone
race weekend. In addition, he said that he puts in a lot of effort during the qualifying round and early stages of the race.
Brawn said, “Our challenge – and we haven't proven it yet – is to get over the reliability issues, and the installation issues. It wasn't helped with the changes in engine mapping which have come along right in the middle of our project, but if is generally
positive.”
He went on to add, “We can see potential in the system, but more important we have things coming which will take more and more advantage of this technology and this approach. We are reasonably optimistic. I am optimistic we will find some good advances with
the system.”
After a strong performance from Nico Rosberg in the British Grand Prix recently, the team is expecting a positive run from Schumacher in the remainder of the season.
