Mercedes strengthen its’ technical prowess as Bob Bell joins team
The Mercedes Formula 1 team will increase its’ technical prowess with the recent inclusion of Rob Bell as the new technical director. Ross Brawn, the Mercedes team principal, recently announced the hiring of Bell into the team.
“Bob's appointment is a key step in the strengthening of our excellent technical team and we are pleased to have recruited one of the most experienced engineers in the sport,” said Brawn.
Norbert Haug, Vice President of Mercedes-Benz said, “Bob's track record speaks for itself and I know he will be a valuable addition to our team as technical director.” He also said that Mercedes will provide the Formula one team with the best people available in every field.
Bell was excited about his inclusion in Mercedes and said, “I am both delighted and honoured to be joining the Mercedes GP PETRONAS Formula One Team as technical director. It will be a privilege to be a part of such a strong and determined organization.”
Bell started his career as an aerodynamicist 30 years ago, as he was hired by McLaren. He worked under the same position in Benetton and Jordan. In 2001, he moved to Renault and was promoted to technical director in 2003.
Bell has previously served successfully with Renault as a technical director, as it was under his leadership that the team won both Championship titles in 2005 and 2006. He was also the acting team principal of Renault when Flavio Briatore left the team after the Crashgate scandal in 2008.
Bell left Renault at the end of last season but he is now called again by another Formula one team. He will be working in the Brackley company headquarters, where he will be utilizing his expertise for the improvement of the Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines.
The Mercedes driver’s line-up includes seven time world Formula one champion Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg. With the inclusion of Bell to strengthen their technical staff, Mercedes are all set to take on the best of the Formula 1 teams. It will be interesting to see how Bell’s expertise increases the competitiveness of the Mercedes team.
