Mercedes target stronger second half of 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn has said that they are targeting to attain competitive results in the second half of the 2012 Formula 1 season.
Brawn said that they have not been able to develop a car which is competent enough to challenge the contenders at every kind of circuit. However, he said that they have been working very hard to make the essential development in their car so as to score
more points in the forthcoming races.
Moreover, he said that their aim is to secure better position in this year’s championship fight as compared to their current fifth place in the constructors’ rankings.
"We haven't got the car quite as we wanted right now, but we have a very good team - very good people - so I am optimistic that we are going to have a stronger second half to the season than the first half," he told Formula One's official website. "P5 is
not our ambition and we will do anything possible to end better. There are still a lot of races to come with many more points to be won."
The Brackley based team had a remarkable pre-season testing programme this year. Furthermore, they have performed really well in the qualifying of the races until now.
Conversely, they faced difficulties in converting their competitive grid slots into podium finishes as their car didn’t suit each and every kind of track. Additionally, they lacked in good tyre management and faced some technical issues in most of the races.
Nevertheless, they have managed to perform quite convincingly in the first half of the season and have got the potential to achieve more in the upcoming races.
At present, they are at fifth position in the constructors’ championship with 106 points. Besides, they are ahead of Sauber and are behind Ferrari.
Meanwhile, their driver, Nico Rosberg is presently at 6th place in the drivers’ standings while his teammate and compatriot, Michael Schumacher is at 12th position in the championship.
Over and above, it will be quite exciting to see how the perfect blend of expertise and talent performs in the approaching races.
