Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn praises Nico Rosberg – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn has praised Nico Rosberg’s qualifying ability.
Brawn said that Rosberg has been able to achieve more than the car’s potential. He said he has improved a lot in 2011 when compared to his more experienced teammate Michael Schumacher.
Rosberg has also said that beating Schumacher gives him great satisfaction, but he wants to focus more on winning races now.
“In qualifying, he really can get the most out of the car. Nico comes closer to its limits,” he is quoted by Germany’s Sport Bild. “I think we’ve often seen him in a better qualifying position than where I would expect the car to be. Nico might think this
is normal, but it’s not. For me, he is definitely among the best drivers in formula one.”
“It could be that the new Pirelli tyres help him because you don’t have to be quite as gentle with them as you did with the 2011 generation,” said the Briton.
Brawn also thinks that Schumacher has shown better form in 2012, and it could be because of the new Pirelli tyres which are not as gentle as they were in the previous season.
Rosberg and Schumacher have had a good run during the pre-season tests held at Jerez and Barcelona. Mercedes unveiled their new car at the second pre-season test and Schumacher has shown good pace with the car. While Rosberg set a better time in the first
test with the older car, Schumacher set up a better time in the second test with the new W03.
Schumacher is an experienced and talented driver and cannot be shrugged off, while Rosberg is an up and coming driver. Mercedes find themselves in a good position to start their 2012 campaign as both drivers have high ambitions.
Mercedes looks really strong so far and are speculated to be strong contenders for the top three spots. Brawn also said that he admits that the team is not going to go in and start winning but they will perform really well and hope to convert those strong
performances into wins.
The season will begin with the Australian Grand Prix as the inaugurating race on March 18, 2012.
