Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn says Mercedes requires consistency – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn has said that his team needs to improve the consistency of their car’s performance in all conditions and all type of circuits.
Brawn admitted that Hungaroring was an eye-opener for the team as it became clear that there is much work to be done with the car in order to make it competitive in all sorts of conditions. The team has only managed to get 14 points from its last three races
while its higher placed rivals have almost scored double of those points for the constructors’ championship.
Sauber is below Mercedes yet it has managed to score more points than Mercedes in the same period of last three races. Mercedes have been disappointing at Britain and Germany where both the drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg have failed to perform
to their potential. The duo did not manage to qualify in the top ten at Hungary and only Rosberg was able to score a single point in the race at tenth place.
“Obviously our car is suited to certain tracks and what we have to do is to create a car that's competitive on all circuits. That's our priority,” Brawn said. “There's a massive amount of work going on to improve that situation. Occasionally you get a team
that dominates on all tracks all year, we've been fortunate enough to be there, but more often than not there are ups and downs, particularly ups and downs for how well you use the tyres at different tracks. It's something that we're addressing and we intend
to have a broader range of usage on the car.”
He added that it would appear that the balance of consistently going through the long corners is not that good and that is something that the team will need to find solutions for once the team comes back from the summer break.
Mercedes will need to come up with better updates to remain competitive in the season as teams like Red Bull, Lotus and McLaren have really raised the bar. The Hungarian GP showed that the leading driver of the season Fernando Alonso was struggling to keep
up to the drivers of those teams.
