Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn thinks they must work together – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn has said that they must work together as a team so as to improve the performance of their driver Michael Schumacher in the upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season.
The seven-time world champion, after facing retirement in three of the first five races, has only been able to score 2 points in the season so far and he is currently standing at 18th place in the drivers’ championship.
Even though, he has shown some amazing performances during the qualifying of the first three grands prix, however, he could not covert his competitive grid position into a podium finish in either of the races.
Nonetheless, it will be important to mention that he secured an incredible 10thplace finish in the fourth race held at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir even after setting off from 22nd grid position as he faced five-place grid penalty.
Later, in the fifth race at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, he qualified for 8thplace in the grid but unfortunately he was retired due to his collision with Bruno Senna of Williams.
Nevertheless, he said that he is positively looking forward to perform well in the upcoming races while he admired the efforts of team in enhancing the pace of W03.
On the other hand, Brawn expressed support of Schumacher and said that rather than putting the blame on the driver, they need to make collective efforts to make the necessary developments and the significant preparations to improve the team’s performance
in the forthcoming races.
“We - and that includes Michael - have not done a good enough job collectively in the first five races because Michael's got two points and that's not good enough,” he said. “So, my view is that we always look at things collectively; it's not 'the driver's
made a mistake', or 'the team's made a mistake' it's 'together we haven't done good enough job.' And that's the situation with Michael. But I think the issue of Michael scoring only two points is not just down to Michael. It's down to some of the technical
problems we've had with the car.”
