Mercedes underplay reports about quitting Formula 1 – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG Petronas have underplayed the reports which stated that they are going to quit Formula 1 because of the proposed conditions of the Concorde Agreement.
It has been reported in Times that the Brackley based team is on the verge of leaving the sport as it has not been given any kind of importance as compared to the other rivals including Red Bull Racing, Ferrari and McLaren who have been offered seats in
Formula 1 board of directors.
The Times quoted Ecclestone as saying, “Why should Mercedes have the same deal as the others? What have they have they done in Formula One? They won a race and that is it.”
Conversely, as a response to this report, the motorsport boss of Mercedes, Norbert Haug said that they have not made any such decision.
“There is absolutely no truth to that,” Haug told Auto Motor und Sport.
It will be important to mention that Mercedes team has emerged as one of the most competent teams in this season with its novel DRS-activated F-duct design of W03 which boosts up the car’s top speed on track during the race and gives the driver a competitive
edge over other contenders.
Moreover, they have received immense criticism on their innovative design, especially from Red Bull and Lotus. Nonetheless, the F1 race director, Charlie Whiting declared it to be legal.
Furthermore, the device was called to be very much expensive by other teams. However, the team principal of Mercedes, Ross Brawn said that their design is not expensive but very hard to integrate into the existing car’s setup, which is causing problems for
the rivals.
Although, Mercedes have shown quite impressive performances in the qualifying but they have been seen struggling with their race performance in several races until now.
Nevertheless, their driver, Nico Rosberg secured his first ever pole leading to a race win in the Chinese GP held at Shanghai International Circuit.
Over and above, they are currently at fifth position in the constructors’ championship and are looking forward to perform well in the races ahead to make their position stronger in this year’s championship.
