Mercers Row tipped to win Annie Oxtoby Memorial Handicap
Mercers Row has won the best odds for the Annie Oxtoby Memorial Handicap at Beverley in England on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. The winner of the class-5 event will be awarded a cash prize of £2,296.
The going will be good to soft in the 5 furlong race, which is scheduled to start at 15:00 GMT. A total of 11 runners had lined up for action at Beverley and their names are as follows: Diamond Blue, Mercers Row, We´ll Deal Again, Highland Warrior, Shawkantango,
Ingleby Star, Select Committee, Wicked Wilma, Lady Kildare, Liberty Ship and Caranbola.
The latter of the above mentioned runners might not be seen in action today, as there is a doubt over her participation. She is a veteran runner and has won seven races out of 44 attempts, thus would have been one of the favourites to prevail.
At the moment, the bookies have rated Mercers Row as the favourite to win the race at Beverley. He has been performing well over the past few events, thus the punters will be encouraged to place the maximum number of bets in his favour.
The five-year-old gelding has participated in 18 events until now, winning just a couple of them and finishing runner up on the same number of times. Moreover, he has also secured the third spot on three occasions, which shows that he is capable of competing
at the front.
In his most recent race, the Noel Wilson’s trainee finished on top of the table by just half a length. He was not given the best odds back then, but still managed to make a solid impression in the end.
Mercers Row will be partnered by Daniel Tudhope in the race. The seasoned jockey has won quite a few races at this level, but his strike rate is on the lower side. He will need to win more consistently in order to attract more bets in the future.
Other than the race favourite, Diamond Blue will also be the one to watch out for, as she is a quality runner. She has taken part in five events, winning one of them and finishing third on three occasions. This means that she only dropped out of the top
three only on one occasion.
