Mercito Gesta wins 3rd round TKO decision against Jorge Pimentel – Boxing news
The current WBO and NABO Youth Lightweight Champion Mercito Moya Gesta has successfully won his eight-round bout scoring a 3rd round knockout decision against Jorge ‘El Tigre’ Pimentel of Mexico on Saturday, July 7, 2011 in United States.
The fight was scheduled to take place under the Brandon ‘Bam Bam’ Rios vs. Urbano Antillon fight card. Rios won this WBA Lightweight world championship bout against Antillon adding another third round knockout decision to his career recently at the Home
Depot Centre in Carson, California.
The 31-year-old experienced Pimentel went down to the floor three times during the fight. The time was 2:33 of the third round when the referee Raul Caiz Junior stepped in to halt the fight.
Vince Parra, who is currently the Gesta’s trainer and co-manager said, “Gesta told him after the fight that he didn’t have to move around and dance on my toes. I’m comfortable walking into my opponent. It was a good fight and we are looking forward to getting
back into the ring. Right now Mercito is really focused, he’s thankful and he’s humble and he’s ready to get right back to work.”
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum spoke to the press before the fight and said, “Gesta is strong and he’s always in a position to punch.”
The Filipino professional boxer, Gesta has been an outstanding performer since he joined boxing as a profession. Mercito ‘No Mercy’ Gesta has never been defeated by anyone in his career. It was his number 13 consecutive win. The Southpaw stance, Gesta turned
professional after winning unanimous points’ decision against Edwin Picardal in 2003.
The 23-year-old young boxing prospect Gesta is currently the WBO and NABO Youth Lightweight Champion. Gesta won this title winning a fourth-round retired hurt decision against Mexican professional boxer Oscar Meza in 2010.
The Mexican national professional boxer, Jorge Pimentel faced the third consecutive loss of his career.
In his last fight before Gesta, the Light Welterweight contender Pimentel lost through a knockout decision against Rosbel Montoya on April 2, 2011 at the Arena JUBA in Reynosa, Tamaulipas.
