Hi

I was told that Mercruiser is the most reliable engine fo there 3 for salt water (and in general) with Mercury being the worst?

This is because I found a nice boat but it has a Mercury and not Mercruiser. So now I am in doubt.

Is the above so?

Thanks

  1. merc cruiser is a in board engine with an  out drive

mercury is a outboard engine   outboards and safer and less problems

a inboard can catch fire if not vent ed  properly when fueling  a o,b, wont

your better off with an o,b  i wouldnt buy and inboard[merc cruiser]

  2. I think you are a bit confused. Mercruiser is a inboard/outboard engine. Basically Its like a car engine in your boat with what is called an outdrive outside the boat that pushes the boat on the water. Volvo is the same only not the quality that mercrusier. Mercury is the standard name for outboard engines. These are the engines you see mounted outside the boat to the transom. the engine is entirely out side the boat. These are very good performers as well. Typically off shore boats are large and have more than one mercury outboard on the back.

Mercury Marine is actually the parent company of Mercruiser. they just make two different styles of engines.

  3. Be obsessive about flushing the engine after you use it and it should give you years of good service.
