Question:

Mercruiser 3.0L carb conversion?

Does anyone know who does, or where I can get a replacement carb conversion for my Mercruiser mercarb 2BBL in the UK.

Being an American carb it pumps fuel in like Niagra falls and with todays fuel prices approaching £5 a gallon (close to $10.00 per gallon in case our US cousins are unaware of just how greedy the UK government is), I need to get more than 4 -5 mpg out of her to keep the costs within my comfort zone.

Absolute top end not important, river speed limits (6mph) and midrange punch to get on plane quickly are more important.

Weber do not list one.

Thanks in advance

  1. These are car engines modified for boats. You may try a Auto Parts Store and see what they may have. Be sure you use the Spark Arrestor it the thing look like an Air Filter. This all I know.

  2. As far as I know this would be a custom conversion, but you should be getting decent engine time run off of your existing tank.  Are you sure it just doesn't need a tune up? maybe re-jetting of the Carbs would be a possible fix.

  3. I have a 3.0L mercruiser. The carb it came with was made for the engine as a matched set. Fuel injection might increase the efficiency, but not much. Sounds like you bought too much motor. Buy a small outboard and use that for your no wake zone. When you get in open water and need to get up on plane start the big motor-135 hp to go 6 mph is overkill.
