Question:

Mercury 150 horse (1990) - What should the carburator float level settings be?

I am having diffuculties troubleshooting a problem on my 150hp (1990) mercury outboard. It idles smooth, then drops, then goes back running smooth (and this continues over and over again) - however, the problem does not exsist at high speed. I have already checked the idle setting, and cleaned the carburators, and checked for fuel blockage. Anyone have any other ideas? I was looking for the correct carb float level as that might be the problem.

  1. you have a float controlled carb. in a boat?......that in itself could be a problem....I,m surprised it doesn't flood out in medium wave,s.......but  I don,t think that,s your problem.....check any Governor control,s or rev. limiter control,s........set your float about 1/8 inch below the bowl flange.........good luck!...................p/s.....float setting,s at lip of float....not the top!

  2. i do not think it is the floats, do you have the book- check to see there are high speed and low speed jets on those
