Mercury 40 h.p. wiring?

Question

Just put a 40 merc.(1980?) on my little boat and connected the pos. and neg. terminals and it's not wanting to start! is there a kill switch or another wire that is not hooked up? Brand new batt.

check neutral switch adjustment, check all battery cables, inc ground. Test for power at starter with test light.

Make sure its in Neutral.
