Question:

Mercury 90hp inline 6, losing odd cylinders?

I have a 90hp mercury inline 6 cylinder that is having some odd issues. First off from the stator there are 6 wires, two go to one switch box, the other two to the other switch box, and the other two to my regulator rectifier. If i have everything connected the boat only runs on the even cylinders. I tried switching the wires between the two switchboxes but the problem stayed with the odd cylinders so my boxes are good. If i remove the two wires that go to the regulator rectifier then the boat will run on all 6 cylinders. I replaced the regulator rectifier with a new one because the old one checked out bad but when i put the two stator wires on the new regulator rectifier i lose the odd cylinders again. I checked my new voltage regulator and i do not have continuity between the two input poles from the stator and ground like i was supposed to on the old one. Is this one now bad too? or has it been replaced by another type of rectifier? my main question is, is my stator bad and is that why i lose 3 cylinders when i try to charge? What can i check?
