Mercury Morris believes Packers can share pinnacle of perfection with 72' Dolphins – NFL News
The Miami Dolphins team of 1972 is the only team in the history of the National Football League to go the whole season unbeaten with a perfect 19-0 record. With the Green Bay Packers currently 9-0 and favourites to make it 10 when
they face the struggling Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, ex- Dolphins Running back Mercury Morris has come out to publicly support the Packers drive to a perfect season.
Dolphins famously went unbeaten in 1972 and their 39 year record is still standing as many pretenders to the crown came close but ultimately faltered at the finish line. The Patriots came the closest in 2007, with Indianapolis
14-0 and New Orleans 13-0 in 2005 faltered towards the end.
This time it is the Green Bay Packers who are pushing aside challengers after winning the Super Bowl XLV and look unstoppable. The Packers crushed the Minnesota Vikings last Monday 45-7 with their most complete performance of the
season. The struggling Buccaneers should provide little problems for Packers and the fixture is looking like a routine win for the defending Super Bowl Champions.
Morris who was famously dismissive of the 2007 New England Patriots side that went 18-0 but lost their final Super Bowl XLII Championship game against the New York Giants 17-14 for being arrogant has come out in favour of the Packers
saying
"If they do it, I will toast them," Morris said, according to FoxSportsFlorida.com. "I like (the Packers). He went on. "I have nothing but good things to say about the Packers. If they (end up) in our neighbourhood, they're a credit
to the sport. They don't have a bunch of guys out there who view themselves as entertainers."
"I didn't like the way [the Patriots] came across [four years ago]. They thought it was just a formality [finishing 19-0] … They were too much in your face. They wanted you to bow down to them and kiss the king's ring."
The 72’ Dolphins team has made it a tradition to toast whenever any NFL team comes close to beating their perfect record and falters at the finish. This time however things seem different with Morris suggesting that the current
Packers team has what it takes to stand shoulder to shoulder with the legends.
