I have a mercury cougar 99 and everytime i drive it on the freeway for more than 15 mins the rpm is slipping. I am running it for 60mph but after a few miles of running then the car starts jerking, it feels like the car is bouncing back. If i push the gas it feels like there is a hesitation. Please help me, i don't know if it is transmission or fuel pump. thank you.

  1. The term "slipping" leads me to believe you have a transmission issue. Especially after you are driving a bit and the fluid gets warm..when the fluid warms up it thins out a bit. Have you ever had the transmission serviced? It hopefully hasnt roasted the friction plates inside. I bet if you pull the transmission oil dipstick the fluid will be black and smell burned. I would say you may want to have it flushed out and a new filter installed. Make sure you have a complete flush done so the torque converter is drained as well. If it still slips after that you may want to consider getting rid of it and moving on.
