Merdeka Cup Challenge 2012: Chen Tang Jie grabs Boy’s Singles U14 title – Badminton news
Chen Tang Jie, an upcoming shuttler from Malaysia, put up staggering show of top class badminton and claimed Boy’s Singles U14 title after crushing his country-mate Wilson Lau Ngie Ding in the final showdown at the Merdeka Cup Challenge 2012 on Sunday, August 26, in Malaysia.
The spirited Chen Tang, who was the top seed in Boy’s Singles U14 draw in the championship, continued his elevated run in the title match and overpowered the second seeded Wilson Lau in a commanding fashion.
Top seeded Chen Tang was in a different mood on court as he did not consume much time in court and easily ended up the fight in straight games with a striking margin while taking just 20 minutes.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Wilson Lau could not match the speed and impressive skills of his opponent in both games and lost the battle without proving his mettle in front of his home fans.
Most impressive element in the match was the incredible speed of Chen Tang who also executed powerful smashes and net killings to take a wonderful advantage on score board at the early stage.
The in-form Chen Tang was everywhere on court in opening half and he was miles ahead of his team-mate until the mid-game break.
After the one-minute interval, the Chen Tang did not slow down his speed and also maintained his focus. He was aggressive in his approach and kept his opponent under pressure in the concluding half.
Top seeded Chen Tang remained in tremendous form all the way in opening game and took it easily with a crushing 21-10 score on the board.
In the following set, Wilson Lau changed his tactics and worked well by gearing up his speed in all areas of the court. Until the break, he remained close to his higher ranked compatriot on score board.
After the one-minute break, Chen Tang played with precision while remaining positive in the execution of shots and won the second set with a decent 21-18 score on the board.
The incredible Chen Tang emerged as the title winner as he finished off the final battle quite impressively with a striking difference of 21-10 and 21-18.
