Tan Swee Seng, an impressive player from Malaysia, showed a wonderful performance and claimed Boy’s Singles U15 crown after beating his aggressive team-mate Sean Ng Sze Jing in the final showdown at the Merdeka Cup Challenge 2012 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday, August 26.
The in-form Tan Swee, who has been putting up staggering performance in all of his battles in Boy’s Singles category in the championship, played to his maximum potential and overpowered his opponent in a sensational battle.
The opening game did not belong to Tan Swee but he proved his mettle and powered his way back into the match in the following games and outplayed his rival in three games by taking 40 minutes on court.
On the other hand, the impressive Sean Ng also showed his class and took the opening game. However, he failed to tackle the aggression of his rival in the following sets and lost the title match in rubber sets with a reasonable margin on the board.
In the first game, both shuttlers engaged the crowd by playing at their best speed and remained close on score board until the mid-game interval.
After the break, they continued showing their remarkable craft while keeping the pace of rallies at the highest level and reached at the breath-taking stage of 22-22.
At this crucial stage, Tan Swee made a wrong choice of shots and eventually lost the opening game with a close score of 22-24.
Nevertheless, Tan Swee showed his aggression in the following set when he played attacking badminton and remained successful in building up a tremendous lead at the end of opening half.
The in-form Tan Swee remained on track in the concluding half of second game and he did not face any trouble in winding it up with a crushing margin of 21-9.
The deciding game was also one-sided when Tan Swee showed no mercy to his rival and remained in complete control in the opening half.
He was impressive in his shot selection at the ending phase of final set and finished it up with a stunning 21-13 margin on the board.
The spirited Tan Swee won the title by ending up the final encounter with a convincing score of 22-24, 21-9 and 21-13.
