Merdeka Cup Challenge: Puah Chen Hao crushes Joey Wang Kai Sheng to grab Boy’s Singles U17 title
Puah Chen Hao, who is one of the most dedicated young shuttlers from Malaysia, displayed his elevated skill on court and won the Boy’s Singles U17 title after stamping his mark over his country-mate Joey Wang Kai Sheng in the final encounter at the Merdeka Cup Challenge 2012 in Malaysia, on Sunday, August 26.
The third seeded Puah Chen, who put up a spectacular performance in the whole tournament, remained on track in the final match and easily gave a punishing treatment to the fifth seeded Joey Wang.
The higher ranked Malaysian shuttler was in commanding position in the final battle as he played with confidence and precision and overpowered his challenger in straight sets with an inspiring margin on the board.
Lower ranked Joey Wang, on the other hand, could not live up to the expectations as he failed to dictate the terms on court and remained struggling all the way to end up losing the battle without grabbing any set.
The impressive Puah Chen played impressive badminton in opening set by keeping the pace of rallies at the highest level and remained successful in taking a fabulous lead until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, Puah Chen continued his roller-coaster run on court without letting his rival to get closer at any stage and eventually wrapped up the set with a stunning 21-13 score on the board.
The following set was an absolute thrill as both shuttlers played to their maximum potential and remained toe-to-toe at the opening sets.
Positive and aggressive play enabled both contestants to remain close on score board until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, the higher ranked Puah Chen remained on track but failed to establish a reasonable lead as his opponent was also playing positive and aggressive badminton.
However, Puah Chen managed to control the pace of rallies at the concluding points and remained successful in ending up the second set with a 21-19 score on the board.
Third seeded Puah Chen won the final contest in straight sets with a convincing difference of 21-13 and 21-19.
