Meredith Duncan bags praises despite being winless
American Meredith Duncan appears to be in high spirits these days despite her worse-than-average performance in some of the events that she played recently.
Duncan is best known for having an impressive fan following in the United States. The local fans often call Duncan a golf icon because of her stunning victory at the 2001 US Women’s Amateur.
The US Women’s Amateur is affiliated with the United States Golf Association (USGA) and Duncan’s victory led many observers to call the 2001 edition one of the greatest in the history of United States golf.
Duncan has played on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) and Futures Tour.
She may not clinch many victories but her resilience and strength on the course led many analysts to believe that the American star is going to shine in future.
The 31-year-old Duncan is likely to see tough challenges ahead given the intense competition in the LPGA tournaments.
She has been with the Tour for over 10 years now, which highlights that she really has to put her best forward in order to remain in the sport.
Duncan’s performance on the LPGA Tour has been under discussion. Having participated in 113 tournaments, she managed just 36 cuts in the matches — something even the ambitious star is aware of.
Duncan rose to fame when she stunned her fans as an amateur player. She recorded a triumph in the Women’s Western Amateur in the 2000 and 2001 seasons.
Her performance as an amateur was praised by analysts and her competitors. However, it has been a bit of a concern for her that she lost the form she used to show in amateur events.
Another victory that put the American in the limelight was the North and South Women’s Amateur at Pinehurst.
She performed amazingly well, making sensible shots on almost all the holes. Her work ethic, that was certainly the real reason for her magic form, was appreciated by many observers.
One thing that makes Duncan stand out among her peers is that women golfers usually praise her despite that she has not recorded most wins.
"You would do anything for your good friends — especially those people that get the bigger picture," Angela Stanford said of Duncan.
