The bookmakers expect Merigo to do well in today’s race, as he has got quite a lot of experience in chase events. His recent form is also impressive, thus the punters are likely to place a lot of bets in his favour.
The 11-year-old gelding has participated in 19 chase races until now, winning six of them. Moreover, he has also secured a couple of runner up positions and one third place finish.
In his most recent outing, the Andrew Parker’s trainee ended up on top of the table by a neck distance. He was not the favourite to win, but surprised one and all with his performance.
Merigo will be partnered by Timmy Murphy, who is a decent rider and has won 122 races while chasing. His strike rate is also very good, which helps him attract a lot of bets in his favour.
Other than the top favourite runner, Harry The Viking will also be the one to watch out for in the race. He does not have a lot of experience, but has done extremely well in chase events, winning a couple of them out of three attempts.
The seven-year-old gelding will be partnered by veteran jockey, Ruby Walsh, who is one of the best in the business.
Looking at the stamina of Merigo, it will be quite difficult to stop him from winning the race at Ayr today.
