Merit Man’s chances in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint endangered by, Super Ninety Nine
The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint is the first race on the card today, and has attracted seven two-year-old runners. The contest has come down to the two unbeaten; Merit Man and Super Ninety Nine. The six furlong race will be held at Santa Anita on Friday,
2nd November over dirt.
Merit Man enjoys the backing of the success at Santa Anita over the same distance, while the Bob Baffert trained, Super Ninety Nine, is not only under the supervision of one of the hall mark trainers, rather, takes on the lead with the pedigree too.
With Distinction’s bay colt cleared his special weight maiden over polytrack on 2nd September, 2012 at Del Mar over five furlongs. Racing from the sixth stall while riding with jockey, P. Valenzuela, he edged past Sacred Ovation by ¾ of a length.
The American bay colt out of, Precise Strike, had his next winning stop at Santa Anita in the TM Conway Stakes (Formerly Run By As The Jack Goodman Stakes) (Dirt) on 6th October, 2012 over six furlongs.
The fast ground suited the two-year-old who won by the margin of 5 ½ lengths from, South Floyd.
Roughly two months in the profession has got him the backing of 7 to 4 odds, and has his third career outing at the Breeders’ Cup.
He has drawn the third post, and will race in the company of the same jockey.
Another interesting candidate in the field is Pulpit’s two-year-old chestnut colt, Super Ninety Nine.
The colt out of, Exogenetic, broke his maiden at the same race course on 7th October, 2012. Riding with jockey, M. Garcia, he landed the event by the mark of 1 ¼ lengths.
The Bob Baffert conditioned is a 2 to 1 shot for the race, has drawn the fifth post, and will ride with the same jockey.
The only British entry in the race is the two-year-old bay filly, Ceiling Kitty.
"She's tough and she has experience. If she gets six furlongs on dirt she has some sort of chance and she probably doesn't need to be top class to win this race,” trainer, Tom Dascombe commented about his filly.
