and the sighting of "mermaids" were most likely dugongs, those fat seals... were do these mermaids live? there are these things called cameras now a days.... and compareing it to god a faith thing to a fkn mermaid a physical thing is completly differnt

When was the last corroborated sighting? My records say 1800's. People have claimed to see God since then, one time as a group.

Therefore, it's all a matter of what you believe.

Well they might be real. I have yet to seen one but I'll keep an eye out. If they are real though I'm pretty d**n sure they won't be as I expected them to be lol

Saying mermaids are as real as God isn't going to convince many people as

A) Some people don't believe in god

B) Even those who do believe in God think they are myth, mostly anyway.

The sightings of mermaids in the open oceans has been attributed to any number of aquatic mammals such as the dugong, seals and dolphins, which from far away could resemble a  person swimming in the open ocean...especially when the men spotting them had been at sea for several months with no women to please them.

Biologically speaking a half human, half fish creature wouldn't be able to exist. The upper body, meaning the area above the waist, contains the lungs, heart, stomach, the two intestines, etc. These organs were meant to be used on land with fresh supply of oxygen at any given time. If a mermaid were to have the upper body of a human, don't you think we would have seen more of them by now? Coming up for air?

Humans do have the ability to hold their breath for several minutes, but depriving the brain of oxygen to long wouldn't be good.

I am not saying a mermaid like creature can't exist, I mean we have seen more of the moon then our own oceans, so there is a very real chance that they could be there, but I don't think they would resemble humans. Maybe more along the lines of Harry Potter merfolk.

There have been recent sightings, a few months ago at least, of creatures resembling mermaids off of the waters of Papua New Guinea, however there are also dugongs in that area which could have attribute to it.

I agree. I think they are both equally likely to be real. Check out the book Monsters by John Michael Greer. It talks about the possibility mermaids and other creatures and he sites lots of sitings--some in modern times.

To btvs: now, I'm not trying to attack you--I think what you're saying makes sense--but I really don't think anyone could mistake a hulking dugong for a mermaid even if "they had no women to please them."

You're confusing beliefs with opinions.  We do have to hold an opinion about mermaids but we all MUST hold a belief about our Creator.  I do and you do.

I believe that my Creator exists so that I can honestly seek Him.  Some other people believe that their Creator doesn't exist so that they have the freedom to run their own lives without any authority over how they should run their lives.
