The Belgian winger has insisted that the Rotterdammers are as much title contenders as Ajax and PSV, while revealing that his side cannot drop even a single point in the remaining games of the season if they are to become Dutch champions.

The Rotterdammers are currently occupying the third spot on the league table, only a point behind the second placed, Ajax, and three points behind the table-toppers, PSV.
With nine games left to play for in the ongoing 2012/13 campaign, the 25-year-old attacker has insisted that all the three traditional Dutch powerhouses have a good chance of lifting the title come the end of the season.
“Ajax won an important game against Twente on Saturday, so they did well. Ajax are not the only contenders, though. We have to keep a close eye on Feyenoord as well”, Mertens was quoted a saying in an exclusive interview to Goal.com.
The prolific winger, who has thus far netted an impressive 12 goals while setting up 13 more in 22 league appearances for PSV, went on to admit that his side must continue claiming all three points until the end of the season if they are to be crowned Dutch
champions.
“It's crucial for us to keep on winning the next few games. We already struggled against the so-called smaller teams before, but those games are as important as the matches versus http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571, Twente and Ajax toward the end of the season”, Mertens added.
The pint-sized winger also took time to single out Memphis Depay and Jurgen Locadia’s impressive showings this term, and admitted that both of the youngsters have been making good progress.
“They are developing really well, especially when you see how many goals they score and how important they are. Memphis' goal against VVV at the weekend was very important, too”, Mertens concluded.
Locadia has thus far netted five goals while amassing four valuable assists in 10 league games while Depay has managed to add his name to the score-sheet on two occasions in 12 Eredivisie appearances.
