Arsenal’s German centre back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Per-Mertesacker-c29680 has admitted that he is finally beginning to settle into the North London club after a rather troublesome first season.
The defender was part of the Gunners line up that took on Tottenham Hotspur this past weekend, and he was the player to score the opening goal for Arsenal in the game.
His goal came via a cross from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Walcott-c34873, as Mertesacker rose up and powered a header into the near post. The goal was his first goal for the club, and it proved to be one of the most important goals that he might ever score.
When talking about how he has adapted in the league, and how things have started to look a whole lot brighter for him, the towering defender is reported to have said: "It was quite tough for me [in my first season] but now I feel much more comfortable with
the situation, with the season, with opponents, with our team as well, with the game we play. I try to keep on going with that feeling."
“English football is much more physical than the Bundesliga so you have to make your mind up about the tackles, about the way you cover your partner. So I set those things up a bit and I feel much better than last season.”
"We try to play our game, to set the pace. The improvement has been so big, especially when you train more than one year with a team. The improvement is that big and I think you can see it. You can see those players who came in this year, they need a bit of
time to settle in completely.”
The German international had gone on to make twenty seven starts for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in his first season with Arsenal, which is quite outstanding to say the least.
This time around, things seem to be looking to be a whole lot brighter for the player, as he is a regular member of the first team, and his performances have also looked to improve as time goes by.
He has been commanding the back line this season, and his dominant performances have been rather encouraging for the whole team.
At the moment he also holds the record for having the best pass accuracy rate in the league, which adds a new sense of security to the team.
It is now a wait to see just how good he becomes over the coming weeks.
