Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger has gone on to confirm that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Per-Mertesacker-c29680 won’t be playing for the Gunners this season, since the player’s injury is going to take much longer to recover, then initially expected.
Mertesacker made the move to the Emirates at the start of the season from Werder Bremen and since then, he went on to make twenty one league appearances for the team in the league.
However, with the towering German international injuring a ligament in his ankle, he is going to be ruled out of action for an extended period of time.
It was initially believed that he would be fit in time to play the last two or three games of the season, but that doesn’t seem to be the case any longer.
Wenger, when talking about Mertesacker and his injury is quoted to have said: "I believe Per will be out for the rest of the season"
"Basically there are only six weeks to go so I don't think he'll be sharp enough to come back and play. He would need to train and get back to full fitness."
The injury to Mertesacker is bound to have an impact on the German national team along with Arsenal.
Mertesacker has been a regular member of the German squad, but with his fitness now in doubt, it is unclear whether he would be allowed to travel to the Euro 2012, should he not be a hundred percent before the start of the tournament.
Despite Mertesacker not set to be back in the near future, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 are bound to do fine in his absence.
Almost every Arsenal player that was out injured is now set to return to the squad in the near future and this is going to give Wenger a lot of options at the back.
The manager is more than likely to stick with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kieran-Gibbs-c20945 now fit, the manager isn’t going to have to use any centre backs as full backs.
All in all, it seems like things are finally looking up for the North London club, despite the injury to Mertesacker.
